Sharethrough earns its street cred at Career Panel
by SF Ed Fund on
How often do you expect to hear “Uptown Funk,” “Happy” and “Let It Go” rock through the halls in an elementary school during a Career Panel?Probably not often, but the six presenters from our Circle the Schools partner Sharethrough really knew how to get the fifth graders at E.R. Taylor Elementary School excited about collaboration, learning from their mistakes, internships and going to college. The tech company’s employees managed to talk about what their company does, their unique roles, how they selected and prepared for their careers, their long-term goals, and why college is important in a way that earned them not one, but two standing ovations. That’s not an easy feat in front of 110 10- and 11-year-olds, but references to Minecraft and other video games, lemonade stands, music videos and movies may have helped. When it came time for the Q&A, Sharethrough’s employees were equally impressed by their young audience.Students asked panelists who their role models were, what they liked most and least about their jobs, how many hours per week they spent at work and even what the employees did if they had to work with someone they didn’t get along with very well.Sharethrough then flipped the panel and asked students about their interests and what they want to do when they grow up.The Career Panel was Sharethrough’s third event in partnership with E.R. Taylor. The company has also supported read alouds and a Literacy Night at the school.
