New Literacy Intensive Volunteer Training

by SF Ed Fund on
Based on volunteer interest and the success of our last training, we’re hosting a Literacy Intensive Training. This is a great opportunity for current literacy volunteers to learn more research-supported strategies and have their questions answered by a literacy expert. Literacy Specialist Lindsay Hatfield of El Dorado Elementary School will lead the literacy-focused training on Tuesday, March 24th, from 6 to 8pm at the Ed Fund offices: 2730 Bryant Street, Second Floor, San Francisco. The event will be broken into three topic areas:
  1. Helping Students Build their Reading Identity: We’ll explore questions and prompts that support word-solving and promote agency and independence. We’ll also help you answers the questions: What do I say when a reader gets stuck on a word? How do I help my reader make connections to the great things they are already doing to solidify and accelerate their progress? Our students read "just right books"--what is the "just right" level of support?
  1. Word Study that Works: We’ll discuss strategies to support the transfer of new learning and answers the question: What are small things I can do within any learning activity to get the most out of our sessions together?
  1. Question and Answer: Pitch all your burning questions to an expert! Common scenarios and challenges will be covered as well.
Hope to see you there! Please RSVP here.
