Splunk kicks off Circle the Schools partnership with Buena Vista Horace Mann K-8 It’s hard for kids to grow as readers when they can’t find books at their skill level. That’s why staff from Splunk spent a day this week organizing, leveling and shelving hundreds of books in Buena Vista Horace Mann’s K-8 classrooms.IMG_1520It seems relatively simple, but it was a big to-do that will make a huge difference for students and teachers alike."You don't know how much this means to us,” said Alicia Vazquez, Buena Vista Horace Mann’s Literacy Coach. “We've been working on this project since November. It's really exciting to have support from the company that shows up and follows through."Vazquez also emphasized how the reorganization of classroom libraries will ultimately enable and motivate students to advance their skills."This classroom has tons of books, but they aren’t organized in any way the students can find them,” Vazquez said outside one of the classrooms. “By doing this, we can empower the kids to find books based on their level and their interest. If they were working on particular subjects, they can find books on that subject at their level."Tuesday’s event was a first in a series of literacy-focused activities emerging from Splunk and Buena Vista’s Circle the Schools partnership.
