The San Francisco Education Fund harnesses the power of the community to equip every public school student with the skills to succeed in college, career and civic responsibility. We analyze data to target resources where they are needed most, engage volunteers in classrooms, provide grants to educators and award scholarships to students, to build a bright future for our city and its young people.

Program Director Camille Stone spent the evening teaching volunteers how to use the Search Institute’s 40 Developmental Assets and a strengths-based lens to approach tutoring and mentoring in SFUSD. She reminded volunteers that being intentional and focusing on a few assets with each student creates a lasting impact.

A Lovely Synchronicity: How Volunteers Welcomed Ms. Martinez Back

It was the afternoon of December 21, 2017 and teachers in the San Francisco Unified School District were mere moments away from a well-deserved winter break. Marisa Martinez, kindergarten teacher at Harvey Milk Civil Rights Academy, was not closing her door, but opening it. Ms. Martinez was returning from a semester of bereavement leave after losing her daughter, Zamora Moon, to an aggressive and incurable brain cancer known as Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG).
