On Thursday, June 8, the Ed Fund celebrated and honored the achievements of the 2023 cohort of Maisin Scholar Award recipients! The 79 incredible students have a lot to celebrate – not only did they receive the Maisin Scholar Award, which provides them up to $3,000 per year as well as academic support and guidance on their collegiate journey, but they also recently celebrated the major milestone of graduating from high school.
The ceremony was held at the iconic San Francisco War Memorial Green Room and was attended by Maisin Scholars, parents, school counselors and staff, friends, families, community-based organizations, and supporters of the Maisin Scholar Award. Darius White, Ed Fund board member and high school English teacher, was the ceremony emcee. He wove in the pride and hope that families, supporters and the community at large have for these scholars as they embark on this next stage of their academic careers following graduation from SFUSD high schools. Maisin alumni and honor award recipients Jaline Chan (Class of 2018) and Johnson Yang (Class of 2013) provided inspiring addresses to the scholars; and Richard Schiller, board president of the Alexander M. and June L. Maisin Foundation, provided a compelling history of the award.

The Maisin Scholar Award is one of many accomplishments for these students, made possible by their own dedication and commitment. The remarkable support network which surrounds each individual student is nothing short of amazing. We are especially grateful to the Alexander M. and June L. Maisin Foundation of the Jewish Community Federation and Endowment Fund for making the Maisin Scholar Award possible. This year, we also extend our gratitude to Carollo Engineers, Inc. and the Owen Cheatham Foundation, which has sponsored additional scholarships for the incoming Class of 2023.”
