The Ed Fund has faithfully stewarded the Maisin Scholar Award for the past eight years, ensuring that 693 SFUSD graduates received more than $4 million in scholarships along with ongoing college counseling and support. Beginning this upcoming 2023-24 school year, the administration of the Maisin Scholar Award (MSA) program will be transitioning from the San Francisco Education Fund to 10,000 Degrees, an organization devoted entirely to college scholarships. 10,000 Degrees shares our commitment to educational equity, social impact, and student empowerment. We firmly believe that this new partnership will further strengthen the program and bring even greater benefits to Maisin Scholars. We are excited for the Maisin Scholar Award to find a new home at an organization focused solely on secondary education, while here at the Ed Fund, our unwavering commitment remains focused on promoting educational equity in San Francisco’s K-12 public schools.

The Ed Fund is proud to have played a role in the lives and educational trajectory of hundreds of SFUSD graduates who participated in the Maisin Scholar Program. Our commitment to hundreds of scholars each year went beyond merely stewarding their scholarship awards; it involved building genuine and meaningful relationships with each of them. We had the privilege of learning about each scholar’s story – what inspires and challenges them, and what their dreams are made of. Whether supporting a scholar for two years in obtaining their associate’s degree or accompanying them for up to six years on the path to their bachelor’s degree, the Ed Fund cherishes the role we play in guiding and assisting these students as they embrace the challenges and excitement of higher education.

Our dedication to San Francisco’s future remains steadfast. We remain inspired by the incredible future leaders of this great city, exemplified by current or former Maisin Scholars like Gilda and Camellia. As we continue our mission, we are filled with hope for what lies ahead, taking pride in the role that we’ve played in supporting these remarkable scholars on their journey to fulfilling and expanding their dreams.

The San Francisco Education Fund community is filled with heartfelt gratitude as we bid farewell to the Maisin Scholar community and this esteemed, longstanding program. We are confident that, with the partnership of 10,000 Degrees, the MSA program will continue to thrive and create transformative opportunities for scholars. Please stay tuned for the 10,000 Degrees and Maisin Foundation’s joint press release with more details on the announcement.

Thank you for your continued support as we wish all the best to the Maisin Scholar Award program as it embarks on this exciting new chapter.
