Bank of America Gives Thurgood Marshall High School College Makeover
On Jan. 18, 2010, in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, Bank of America employees, their families and friends celebrated with a day of service at Thurgood Marshall Academic High School. 75 volunteers transformed Thurgood Marshall into a campus which visually encourages students to continue their education after high school. Volunteers hung college-themed posters, banners, and pennants throughout the campus; painted bulletin boards and classrooms; and provided new furnishings for the College and Career Center and the new Peer Resources classrooms.
Bank of America chose a college-themed service project because it aligns their volunteer efforts with their financial support of our Post-Secondary Success Program, which is building a consortium of school site, district, and community partners to improve postsecondary success for low-income students in San Francisco’s public schools.
Bank of America chose MLK Day to volunteer in hopes that it would reinforce Dr. King’s belief in the capacity of social action to strengthen our nation and foster the type of civic responsibility necessary for a democracy to thrive.
